Millimeter-Wave Huygens’ Transmit Arrays Based on Coupled Metallic Resonators

A novel Huygens' transmit array (TA) is proposed based on a coupled-resonator approach to demonstrate millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) beamforming for linear polarization. The structure simple and compatible with standard printed circuit board (PCB) processes utilizes single dielectric substrate only. It shown that by engineering the geometrical dimensions of resonator, its electric (even-mode) magnetic (odd-mode) resonances are excited in balanced manner achieve zero backscattering large bandwidth. This operation principle cell explained detail using both an insightful equivalent model, as well full-wave eigenmode analysis. Next, placed top high-gain 2-D slot-array antenna, near field, engineer aperture field distribution. Several TA prototypes designed around 60 GHz frequency band demonstrated experimentally characterized their far fields, difference pattern generation, beam expansion, steering application examples, addition uniform surface demonstrating low-loss performance.
